The funkiest Aleph-Bet poster you've ever seen! Each letter is formed by a picture; the clue is the initial sound of the English word, matched to the Hebrew letter's sound. Gimel is Girl, Tet is Telephone, SHin is SHip, Kof is Cough, and TZadi -- well, that's a hard one, which was solved with piZZa. The poster was done by Susanna Spektor Yaari of San Diego, and is a delightful idea for a child's bedroom poster, or a Hebrew School classroom wall decoration. |

Two Novels by Rabbi Mitch Chefitz My wife and I first encountered Mitch Chefitz at the National Havurah Institute three years ago. He's a top-notch teacher -- intense, insightful, focused. When people hear he's giving a class, it fills up right away; an open lecture will be standing-room-only. At age 61, Mitch has become a novelist. He's made a new genre -- the teaching novel. And it works. The Seventh Telling introduces concepts of kabbalah, which aren't easy for anyone, through stories. The Thirty-Third Hour takes you on a tour of the possibilities for Jewish family education, and all the while you think you're reading a crime thriller. I'd add that one of Mitch's stories, "The Curse of Blessings" in The Seventh Telling, is going to be a new Jewish classic. If you want to explain to your children, or to yourself, why we say brachot, there is no better place to start than this story.
